a review : Bourjois Healthy Mix Correcting Concealer

Bourjois is well known for their Healthy Mix Serum and Foundation in the makeup world so I decided to try the healthy mix correcting concealer. This concealer claims to "soothes away dark circles and imperfections for a visibly rested and radiant look. It is available in 3 shades and its glide-on formula blends onto the skin for a natural result, with no marks."

This concealer comes in a tube packaging which is easy to use and hygienic. You can easily control the amount of product you want to use. However, colour selection is very limited to 3 shades, and all 3 shades are fairly light in colour.

I'm not a fan of this concealer after a couple of uses. Although it provides medium coverage and claims to be buildable, I find that my skin starts to look cakey after applying the second layer. I need to layer it quite a number of times to get my desired coverage. My skin will feel sticky and it doesn't sit well throughout the day, especially in humid weather. However, it does last longer on your skin if you use a primer or set it with powder. When I applied it under my eyes, it settled into the fine lines, even after setting it with powder. It also doesn't cover dry patches but instead, it emphasised any dry patches I had.

If you have oily skin or live in a humid country, I think this concealer wouldnt be suitable for you. Overall, I personally wouldnt repurchase this concealer nor would I recommend it as I believe there are better drugstore alternatives.

beauty haulin and first impressions

Best way to destress : beauty shopping. I've been switching up my skin care routine and I wanted to try some new products which are gentle for the skin. And why not get some new makeup to play with?

1. Nars Radiant Creamy Concealer in Custard : This concealer has worked well for me in the past so I decided to repurchase it instead of trying the Urban Decay Naked Skin Concealer. Its a medium-full coverage concealer, buildable, long wearing and feels skin-like.

2. First Aid Beauty Ultra Repair Face Moisturizer : This moisturizer is non-comedogenic and is safe for sensitive skin. It has a gel-like texture and feels light on the skin. This is suitable for all skin types but those with super dry skin would prefer the cream version. This doesnt have SPF so you can you this as your night moisturizer too.

3. Arcona Polished Perfection : This duo contains their award winning Cranberry Toner and Cranberry Gommage. Its made with natural ingredients and is formulated for all skin types. The toner makes your face feel really refreshed and the Gommage is a really fine scrub (meant to be used in the AM) and it leaves your skin feeling gunk-free.

4. Too Faced Natural Eyes Eyeshadow Palette : I've been eyeing this palette for almost a year now and I finally got my hands on it as a gift from my sister. This palette contains 9 wearable shades which is suitable for both day and night. I'll be reviewing this palette after some more experimentation with it.

5. Sephora Fizzing Cube in Blue Lilac and Peony : I picked this up to incorporate it with my Lush Comforter Bubble Bar. The cube dissolves in the bath to leave it milky and scented.

6. Silkygirl Precision Sharp Eyeliner Pen in Blackest Black : This was the first liquid eyeliner I tried years ago and I decided to repurchase it because I liked the sharp felt tip, formulation, and it is long wearing. Plus, it is really affordable.

Thats the end of my haul and I'm really excited to start using these new products.

a review : Collection waterproof fast stroke eyeliner

Hunting for liquid liners is pretty hard for me because makeup here in Malaysia is pretty pricey. So I decided to give drugstores eyeliners a try since Silkygirl's eyeliner was not too shabby. I love watching Suzie (from HelloOctoberxo on Youtube) and her favourite eyeliner is the Collection Fast Stroke. I bought the waterproof one because I have oily eyelids and I tend to wear my makeup for more than 12 hours a day, so i needed something very long lasting.

This liner is waterproof, black and has a felt tip. Im not a fan of the tip because its fairly big and it is quite hard to line the inner corner of my eyes (asian eyes) ; but its fairly easy to manoeuvre around, just need loads of practice and patience.

The ink is not dark enough and I need to layer it for it to really be dark. I do agree that this formula is waterproof as it lasts the whole day on my oily eyelids. However, it does tend to flake a little. I guess the flaking happens because I apply a few layers of it. It is easy to remove at the end of the day and you wont be rubbing your eyelids trying to get every bit off.

Overall, I wouldnt really recommend this eyeliner as there are much better liners out there like the Eyeko eye do eyeliner (review here). But for the price (RM 25), its really not too bad if you just want to try out liquid liners.

my everyday base for hot weather and long days

Since i'm always in college from 8-8, i made sure that my base makeup is long lasting and i do not need to reapply any concealer throughout the day. After i apply my skincare and primer, i will apply a thin layer of my Laura Mercier oil-free tinted moisturizer (shade: nude) to cover some of my redness and its a nice base from my concealer. On good skin days, i will wear this alone and just apply my powder over it. This tinted moisturizer is perfect for good skin days or when you just want to have a little bit of coverage. It is buildable and will not feel cakey even after 3 layers.

For more coverage, i will apply the Estee Lauder Double Wear concealer (shade: 03 Medium). It is a light-medium coverage concealer, but can definitely be build up. This concealer is long-lasting, sweat-proof and it works well for oily-skin too. This concealer works well on both blemishes and under eyes.

To set everything, i use the Revlon Nearly Naked powder (shade: 020 Light Pale). It isnt the best powder for oily skin but it does the job in setting my makeup. I do find that i do get oily throughout the day. So if you are looking for a mattyfying powder, you might not want to choose this. But if you just want something light to set your makeup, this will do the job.

I think that this is a good base for many people as it is lightweight, buildable and long-lasting.
